Helping Children Deal with Tragedy

Dealing with Tragedy

Our hearts are broken tonight by the events this day in Newtown, Connecticut. The innocent young souls lost today in this senseless act of violence is difficult to comprehend for someone in my advanced years, I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for someone in their preteens and early teens.

Several months ago, after a similar senseless act of violence, I offered in this space some tips for parents and teachers in talking to children about tragedies. I am re-posting the link to the National Association of School Psychologists tips.

If you have any questions or concerns about coping with this, please feel free to call Thom Courtney, School Social Worker or Dawn Weber, School Counselor at 222-1220.

Our prayers are offered for the families of those impacted by the events of this day.
